An asphalt road running through the forest

About this route

The route, although not one of the shortest, will not cause you too many problems. The hills you will come across on your way are relatively small and easy to follow, as most of the route is made up of paved roads and good-quality asphalt pavement. During your journey, you will encounter many historical sites waiting to be discovered. You can leave your car at the Blizna Historical Park and start exploring right away. During the season, historical-military picnics are organised here, during which re-enactment groups perform and patriotic competitions and performances take place. After 30 km you will return to the starting point.

Practical advices

Although this route is not demanding, it is worth preparing for it properly, so that nothing surprises you at any point. Start with the most important thing, which is your helmet. A good helmet is essential for your safety. Take care also of proper lighting, both front and rear. In addition to bike lights, equip your bike with reflectors so that you are highly visible on the road.

 

What else is worth taking with you on a trip? Make sure to pack a sweatshirt or a rail jacket in your backpack, in case the weather changes. It is also a good idea to bring snacks to give you energy during the trip. Protein bars or energy mousses work well.

 

If you plan to take visit the attractions along the route, you will need to leave your bike behind in some places. To make sure it is still there after the tour, be sure to bring a bike safety device such as a U-Lock or any bicycle lock.

    The Historical Park was created on the site of a former military training ground. The main part of the site consists of a mock-up of a V-2 rocket and a mock-up of a V-2 rocket launcher on a scale of 1:1. In addition, visitors to the park can see an observation trench. During World War II, a secret training and testing ground for retaliatory weapons operated in the village. It was from here that German V-1 flying missiles and V-2 rockets were launched on Hitler's orders. As you leave the park, look out for the monument erected in honour of the heroes of World War II.

    After leaving the centre of the park, you can take a walk in the surrounding woods. You may find the remains of a V1 rocket launcher, a V2 launching pad and an assembly hall.

    Head west on the asphalt road and after 600 m turn right and enter a forest road. After a few kilometres of riding, you will find yourself at a crossroads with fire road no. 12. Go straight ahead and continue along road no. 10, turning right with it. You will pass a rest area and from there, head to the intersection with road no. 24 and then turn onto fire road no. 16. Follow this road to Kamionka.

    The chapel of Blessed Fr Roman Sitko was established to commemorate the place of birth and upbringing of its patron. Roman Sitko was a priest who died a martyr's death in Auschwitz on October 13th, 1942, aged 62. After the outbreak of World War II, he taught alumni for a time. In 1999, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II, together with 108 other Polish martyrs.

    The further part of the road will lead you to a crossroads, where a cross will be the characteristic point. There, turn left onto a sandy road and then, at the bifurcation of roads, where there is also a cross, turn right towards the next village

    Turn right in front of the historic building and shelter. Follow the signs of the yellow hiking trail. Head towards the village of Sadykierz.

    Landmarks that will make navigation easier and at the same time make sure you are heading in the right direction are the passing observation shelters of the Waffen SS "Heidelager" training ground and the glacial lake. Following the yellow hiking trail markings, head towards the starting point.
