Church in a mixed Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic style

Roman Catholic Church of St. Anne in Niewodna

The current imposing church, in a mixed Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic style, was built between 1921-1924 on the site of an older temple with a long history. The previous church was built in 1596 and rebuilt in 1672. Its poor technical condition necessitated its demolition. The present church is brick-built, has three naves, and displays the robustness of a Romanesque temple, with influences of Gothic elements like numerous pilasters, pointed battlements, pointed arch windows, and a tower and spire with sharp helmets. The impressive entrance with a wide pointed archivolt at the base of the tower has double doors and a tympanum with Neo-Romanesque bas-reliefs. The Neo-Gothic interior, sparing in figurative polychromy, features a baroque choir, altars, and pulpit. Noteworthy is the ornate wooden baptismal font.
