Railway Shelter in Stępina
Together with the shelter under Góra Żarnowska in Strzyżów, it formed the so-called Anlage Süd - Hitler's southern headquarters designed for the war with the Soviet Union. Construction began in 1940 and was completed a year later. The shelter takes the form of a self-supporting, above-ground tunnel located near a small grove. It measures 400 metres in length, 12 metres in height, and its walls reach or sometimes exceed a thickness of 3 metres. This provided resistance to direct hits from bombs weighing up to 500 kg. Inside, it was intended to accommodate Hitler's train - Amerika. In the summer of 1941, the Führer of the Third Reich met with the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini here. In the vicinity, there are bunkers for the protection of the complex, some of which are located on private properties.
