A testament to the turbulent times in the Podkarpackie region

Castle Ruins – tower in Węgierka

The ruins of a bastion noble castle in Węgierka are a testament to the turbulent times in the Podkarpackie region. The castle probably dates back to the 15th century, but was never completed in the original design of a square fortress with 4 bastions, of which two were constructed and only one has survived. The whole had dimensions of 44 by 44 metres. Apart from the bastions, there were two residential wings and a perimeter wall. It is worth noting the construction made of stone supplemented with brick, the omission of windows on the ground floor of the bastion (a defensive value) and the placement of the stronghold in the context of the surroundings, especially the nearby plains.
