Beauty in the shadow of postmodernism

A wooden church with a two-sided sloping roof next to a tall wooden cross

Church of Epiphany of Our Lord in Łukawiec

Not far from the new post-modern church edifice in Łukawiec, stands a historic timber temple dating from the mid-18th century. For a short time, it was a Sanctuary of Our Lady of Łukawiec, whose image wept bloody tears and miraculously healed the faithful. The temple is small and entirely made of wood. Initially, it bore some more characteristics of tserkva architecture, but after reconstructions, the onion-shaped steeple was replaced by a pyramidal turret. Inside, there are paintings and 20th-century polychromes. The shingle masking of the foundation is interesting.
