A rare trace of Protestantism in the Podkarpackie region

Church community and Pastorówka in Podlesie

The Podkarpackie region is not only an area of clashing Polish and Ruthenian ethnic communities but there are also visible influences and mementoes of Jews, Germans, Hungarians or Austrians. One of the mementoes of the Protestant Germans is the pastoral church and rectory in Podlesie. The settlers from the late 18th century brought their religion and style of building, clearly differentiating themselves from previous models with their ascetic modesty. The buildings, erected in the mid-19th century, were used by Roman Catholics after World War II and then handed over to the commune. They now serve as a cultural centre combined with a memorial chamber on the history of the area.
