Sanctuary of St. Bishop Józef Sebastian Pelczar in Korczyna

Bishop Pelczar was an extraordinary figure who made an indelible mark on the history of Poland and the Church. The bishop worked intensively not only in the field of evangelisation but also developed the charitable and educational activities of the diocese of Przemyśl. He founded a museum and library as well as a periodical. He significantly contributed to the strengthening of the national spirit and its awakening at a moment of an important trial in the years between 1914 and 1920. The sanctuary of the bishop, canonised in 2003, is located in the neo-Gothic temple of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the early 20th century. Inside, note the neo-Gothic decoration and the elaborate cross-ribbed vault.
