Former Greek-Catholic Tserkva of St Nicholas in Smolnik
This is another example of the difficult fate of religious buildings in the Bieszczady Mountains. The present Roman Catholic church was built in the early 19th century as a Greek Catholic Lemko Orthodox church. It is a stone-built building with a prominent tower above the vestibule. Particularly attractive are the wooden roof trusses made without even a single nail, the distinctive bell tower helmet deriving its onion-shaped form from the eastern tradition and the extremely ornate iconostasis, which was left in place despite the change in ritual. The wall paintings and the blue vault are also beautiful.
