Tserkva of the Holy Cross in Dachnów
A monument of 20th-century sacral architecture
Tserkva of the Holy Cross in Dachnów
The beautiful building, with a very harmonious body, was put into use in 1929, replacing an older church from the 18th century. It bears all the Byzantine features, founded on a cruciform ground plan, it is divided into three parts, the women's gallery, main nave, side aisles and presbytery. Above the crossing of the naves is a large dome with an umbrella roof, set on a massive drum. The edges of the temple ends in tapering and large windows are set high with decorative dark frames. A wooden bell tower rises next to the temple. After years of use by Roman Catholics, it is now devoid of its sacred character.
