Remnants of a former power
Ruins of the Stadnicki Castle in Dąbrówka Starzeńska
The origins of the castle date back to the 16th century, when a fortified manor house of the Stadnicki family was built on the site. In the following centuries, work was undertaken to improve the premises, expanding it into a castle with straight walls and 3 bastions (except for the southeast corner). Between the 17th and 19th centuries, a residential wing was added and the perimeter of the establishment was closed. At the beginning of the 20th century, an ancestral chapel was added. That century also saw the devastation of the castle by Soviet forces and Ukrainian partisans; the former burned the archives and library as well as profaned the chapel, while the latter completed the job by blowing up the castle walls. To this day, only the remains of the bastion and fragments of the walls remain.
