Classicism Treasure in Podkarpackie
Roman Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Dobra
The search for a unique style of sacred architecture prompted Greek Catholic Ruthenians from the territory of the then Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria, and today's Podkarpackie, to experiment with classicism. A number of temples were created, e.g. the current church of St. Andrew Bobola in Stare Miasto near Leżajsk, or the building in Dobra. The building was erected in 1880 on a typical church plan of an equilateral cross, with a prominent onion dome and division into three functional elements – the narthex, the main nave, and the chancel. The decorations were made in the classical style, referring to the style of Greco-Roman antiquity. The temple was converted after World War II for Roman Catholics. Inside, there is a classical altar 3with elements of a church iconostasis, richly decorated, and outside, a cemetery with Bruśnień-style gravestones.
