Molotov Line. Side Fire Shelter - Half-Caponier in Medyka

The Przemyśl and Medyka region is not only home to the remnants of one of Europe's largest fortresses – the Przemyśl Fortress – but also relics of the defense belt along the demarcation line between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union from 1939-1941. The Soviets built numerous fortifications here, fearing a German invasion. These fortifications had limited combat utility, but today they serve as attractions and examples of using terrain and engineering for defensive purposes. The half-caponier in Medyka was armed with several machine guns, including at least one in an armored dome on the roof. It was surrounded by a small moat, complicating its capture and destruction.
