Remains of a medieval fortified settlement

Kopiec Monastyr (Archeological Museum)

The Podkarpackie region has hosted peoples of various cultures for many millennia, many of which we now recognise through archaeological excavations. One such site is the Kopiec Monastyr, located south of the village of Gaje. Between the 12th and 13th centuries, a fortified settlement existed there on a small hill. Traces of human habitation include the outlines of pits, the remains of hearths and pottery remains. The settlement was probably destroyed by one of the numerous Tartar invasions. Access to the mound is forbidden.
