Art Museum in a former tserkva
Former Greek Catholic tserkva of the Elevation of the Holy Cross in Dubiecko
It is a relatively young building, erected in 1927 on a site where other temples had already been placed. It shared the fate of others of its kind. Taken away from the Greek Catholics, it was abandoned and only since 2004, after renovation, has it been used as a cultural centre, respecting its sacred character and past. The building has characteristics of Byzantine architecture; it is built on a cruciform plan, with a prominent onion-shaped dome over the transept, set on a large-diameter drum. The pediment is decorated with semi-columns and a semicircular arch closed with a cross. The interior of the Museum of the Eastern Borderland is devoid of sacred elements.
